Appearance - there are many different types of vegetables of all sorts of bright vibrant colors to duller colors, small to large sized, and unique, unusual shapes!
Cultivation - different types of vegetables are grown in various ways and produced at different times of the year. Some vegetables are seasonal and some are available all year round.

Types of Vegetables

Cruciferous Veggies
This vegetable group are typically green leafy vegetables that belong to the Brassicaceae family. Cruiciferous veggies are also known by the name 'cruciferae'. These veggies are flowering plants and are also known as mustard flowers, mustards or simply 'the cabbage family'.

The name cruciferae derives from the Latin meaning of the name, which is cross bearing. The representation of the cross being that of the four petals of the mustard flowers. Some of the most common veggies belonging to this particular group, or family, are broccoli, brussel sprouts, cress and cauliflower.

Nightshade Veggies
These types of vegetables belong to the nightshade family of plants which bear edible and inedible fruit and vegetable. Some of these annual and perennial plants bear fruit and veggies which are suitable as family foods and provide high nutritional value.

Some of the popular types of nightshade veg include tomatoes, aubergine otherwise named eggplant, potatoes and peppers. Nightshade veggies are not believed to be ideal for anyone suffering with arthritis as it is suggested that they can increase inflammation of the joints and muscle pain.


Types of Vegetables

Green Veggies
This type of vegetables are solely veggies that are green in color, often a rich or dark shade of green, and often described also as green leafy vegetables. Some examples of vegetable types that belong to this particular group include; broccoli, cabbage, kale, spinach and parsley. Many green veggies provide a good source of vitamin C and vitamin B which are very good for the health. This food group can also help with weight loss.

Root veggies
These types of vegetables come from an edible plant where the roots are the vegetable - basically vegetables that are grown underground. This variety includes the tubers, potato, sweet potato, yams, taros, and roots such as parsnips, turnips and carrots - sometimes known as favourite, traditional winter veg or spring veg, as these are the seasons in which many are grown and ready to eat. Many make up the main part of a meal and provide starch.

Organic Veggies
Types of vegetables that are organic which means that they have been grown in chemical free soil that has not been sprayed or treated with fertilizers and pesticides. The soil has not been treated so our health and bodies are not at risk from becoming polluted or harmed by them. Organic farming provides us with the most healthiest and safest food and vegetable option, the best chemical free products and food produce. All types of vegetables are available as organic.
